FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Broward County prosecutors accused a 44-year-old man of driving under the influence when he was involved in a two-vehicle car crash that killed a 6-year-old girl in April in Oakland Park. Michael McKenna, an IT manager and retired U.S. Army captain, suffered about a dozen broken bones during the crash and was confined to a wheelchair, records show. McKenna's defense argued that house arrest, no driving, and regular drug and alcohol testing would be sufficient for him to avoid pre-trial detention, court records show.
